2011年5月5日より、本文の最下段のところに、挨拶表現や喜怒哀楽を表すフレーズなどを分類してみましたので、これも活用してください。これからここのセクションも充実させていきます♪(^_-)-☆

No. 833 “As far as I’m concerned.”

さて、“concern” を使ったフレーズは、
このワンポイントでは、3回目でしょうか、
以前、No. 325No. 791 で取り上げて
います。

で、本日のフレーズは、No. 791
“I’m not concerned about that”.
と同じように、両方とも“concerned”
という過去形で使います。

なぜ「過去形なのか」という理由とか、
文法的な理屈は、実はあまり考える必要が
ないのは、先日アップしたイントロダクション
のビデオでも簡単にご説明しましたが、日常
使うフレーズとしては、
“I’m not concerned about that.”
「私は心配してません」と、本日の
“As far as I’m concerned.”
「私が知る限りは」
の二つは、日常頻出のフレーズなので、この
フレーズと、日本語の意味をこのまま覚えて
ください。

で、本日の、
“As far as I’m concerned.” というのは、
文章、あるいは自分が話す内容の冒頭、
あるいは最後に持ってこれます。

例えば、
“There’s no risk, as far as I’m concerned.”
とか、
“As far as I’m concerned, there’s no risk.”
のどちらでもOKです。その意味は、
「僕の知る限り、リスクはないよ」
となります。

もう一つ、本日のフレーズに近いフレーズとして、
“As far as I know.” というのがあります。これは
実は、No. 470 で取り上げているので、是非、
こちらも見ておいてください。意味は同じ、
「私の知る限りは」なんですが、そのニュンアス
の違いは、
“As far as I know.” は、ほぼ文字通り、
「私の知っている限り」という感じで、
自分が知識と知っている範囲に基づくと、
みたいな雰囲気で、
As far as I’m concerned.” は、敢えていえば、
「私が色々と考えてみた限り」と、自分の
知識に基づいて考えてみた結果、というような
雰囲気があります。

このニュアンスの違いは、実に微妙なもので、
例えば、
“Do you think we can tell him about this?”
「彼に、このことを言ってもいいかな?」
“I think so, as far as I’m concerned.”
「うん、まあ、いいんじゃないかな」
と、ほんのちょっと考える間がある場面
では、“concerned” の方を使って、
“Do you think he will come today?”
「彼は今日来るかな?」
“I think so, as far as I know.”
「うん、まあ、来るんじゃないかな」と、
自分が知っている事柄に、あまり自分が
考えても、その結果に違いがないような場合に、
“know” を持ってくる、というような雰囲気です。

こういうニュアンスの違いは、是非実際の場面
をイメージしながら、フレーズと結びつけて
みてください♪
